Conference keynotes tend to oversell whatever the theme of the year is. Underneath the noise, a few real shifts are visible in how software teams actually operate — and they're worth naming without the hype.
AI-assisted coding has moved from novelty to normal. The interesting change isn't that engineers use it — it's that teams are being more explicit about where it's trusted and where it isn't, treating generated code the way you'd treat a junior contributor's first draft: useful, but reviewed.
Teams are also getting more disciplined about scope. The 'ship everything, iterate later' approach that dominated for years is giving ground to smaller, better-scoped releases — partly because AI tooling makes it faster to build the wrong thing quickly, which raises the cost of not thinking first.
None of this is a dramatic reinvention of software engineering. It's a sharpening of judgment about which parts of the process actually benefit from speed, and which parts still need a person to slow down and think.
