For pressure vessels, reformers, and process heaters, fabrication tolerance isn't a compliance checkbox — it's the difference between a component that performs safely under process conditions and one that becomes a liability the moment it's commissioned.
Specification adherence during fabrication, not just final inspection, is what keeps industrial equipment safe over its operating life. A weld that passes a visual check but doesn't meet the specified procedure can still fail under thermal cycling or pressure load months after commissioning — long after the fabrication crew has moved to the next site.
This is why dimensional accuracy and procedure discipline have to be checked at every stage of fabrication, not treated as something a final inspector catches at the end. By the time a defect reaches final inspection, correcting it usually means undoing work that took days to complete.
The same principle applies to structural fabrication — platforms, modules, and supports carry real loads under real site conditions, not just the loads shown on a drawing. A tolerance stack-up that looks acceptable on paper can behave differently once erected and loaded in the field.
We treat tolerance discipline as inseparable from safety discipline, because on an industrial site, they're the same thing wearing different names.
